When the question was posed: "What's the stupidest/worst thing ever said to you about being ill with MCS...", below are some responses.

My supervisor (at the counseling center where I worked, where the new carpet had given me a maddening rash over 80% of my body) said to me, "I'm a deeply spiritual person, and I believe you wouldn't be sick if you didn't have some lesson to learn."

A lovely MCS friend of mine, in her mid-60s, recently married a tall, handsome, kind (and understanding) man in his 70s. Upon her marriage, a friend of hers asked "Now that you're married, has your chemical sensitivity gone away?" Her reply was, "Would you ask an amputee if their limb had grown back upon their marriage?"

I really want to tell them I've lost weight because I feel naseous most of the time. I may look great but I feel lousy. Those with hidden illnesses will relate.
